Frequently asked questions

Why recycle food waste?
It prevents food waste going to landfill, where it gives off methane and carbon dioxide, contributing to climate change. Your food waste stops being waste and becomes useful, as compost. Increasing recycling is cost-effective and makes business sense.

What will happen to the food waste after it is collected?
Core Collects food waste from your outdoor bins to deliver it to a local business where it is composted in an enclosed container and used as an agricultural fertiliser.

Why should we only use the liner bags provided?
The bags provided with your CORE food waste collection are made of natural materials and are fully compostable. Plastic bags and other bags marked 'biodegradable' may not work with our composting system. Replacement liner bags are available by calling 01506 526102.

Will the kitchen containers and food waste bins smell or attract vermin?
All the containers and bins available for your CORE food waste collections are secure and vermin-proof. Using the liners provided with your kitchen containers will avoid unwanted spillages and smells.

What will happen if incorrect items are added by accident?
If any materials listed under the 'No Thanks' are found in your waste bin we cannot collect it and it will be returned to you. We are happy to offer training to staff on using the system correctly.

What if I need extra bins, containers or bags?
CORE promises a responsive 24-hour service to supply you with extra or replacement bins, containers or bags. Order before 2pm to guarantee next day delivery.
